Jasper County, IN – A mother-daughter duo, Meagan and Kayla Baker, have been charged with multiple felonies related to alleged theft and fraud.
Charges were filed by Indiana State Police District 13 Field Investigations in connection with their employment at Brian Shields DDS in Demotte, Indiana. The dental practice, which closed in July 2023 due to accounting discrepancies, was the site of the alleged crimes.
According to the investigation, initiated by Dr. Shields in November 2023, over forty patients were interviewed. Findings suggest that the Bakers persuaded patients to pay in cash for a purported discount, a practice not endorsed by the dental office. Investigators discovered these cash payments were not deposited into the office’s bank account and related records were deleted from the office’s computer system. Additionally, significant cash deposits were found in Kayla Baker’s bank accounts.
Charges against Kayla Baker include theft of at least $50,000, corrupt business influence, fraud, obstruction of justice, and forgery. Meagan Baker faces similar charges.
