DuPage County, IL – A Bensenville man accused of causing a fatal head-on crash while allegedly driving under the influence will remain in custody after a judge granted a motion to deny pretrial release.
According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Judge Joshua Dieden approved prosecutors’ request during a court appearance Monday morning, following charges tied to an early morning crash on April 17, 2026. Authorities say the incident occurred around 5:04 a.m. on Route 83 between Frontage Road and I-290 in unincorporated Bensenville.
Prosecutors allege the driver, identified as Zion Turrubiates-Andrade, 22, was traveling northbound in a southbound lane when his vehicle struck another car head-on. Two occupants in the other vehicle were taken to a hospital, where one later died from injuries sustained in the crash. The second occupant survived.
According to officials, the defendant was also transported for medical evaluation and later released into custody. A blood draw conducted at the hospital allegedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of .253.
The defendant faces one count of Aggravated DUI Causing Death and two counts of Aggravated DUI Causing Great Bodily Harm, according to prosecutors. Authorities emphasized that the charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent.
Officials said the case underscores the dangers of impaired driving, noting that fatal crashes linked to alcohol are preventable.
Turrubiates-Andrade’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 18, 2026, before Judge Margaret O’Connell.
