HERSCHER — An early morning scare for grade school students in Herscher on Thursday ended without injuries after a car collided with a stopped school bus on Route 17.

According to Illinois State Police reports it happened about 7 a.m., a school bus carrying six students paused to pick up additional students when 23-year-old Holly Kaufman of Kankakee, driving westbound on Route 17, failed to stop, striking the bus from behind.

Despite the collision, none of the students on board were injured. They continued their journey to school on an alternate bus.

Kaufman, the driver of the car, refused medical attention at the scene. Illinois State Police have since cited her for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
