KANKAKEE, Ill. – In the dim hours of Friday morning, Kankakee residents were startled by the sound of gunfire near East Sheridan Avenue and South Elm. Responding promptly, Kankakee police were alerted to a dark-colored jeep and a white sedan fleeing the scene with their headlights extinguished.
According to reports, upon arrival, officers discovered a van perforated with bullet holes and casings, though no injuries were reported. In a separate incident nearby, a blue Jeep Cherokee lacking headlights led police on a daring chase through streets, ending on West Calista Street. The occupants attempted a swift escape on foot but were captured and identified as Kankakee residents: Devon J Williams, 22, and Henry L Towns, 18.
Williams faces charges including Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Aggrieved Discharge of a Firearm, with bond set at $3,000. Towns is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, and Manufacturing/Delivery of Cannabis (10-30 grams), with bond details pending.
