Hampshire Township, IL – A person was killed and another listed in critical condition Sunday following a fatal rollover crash.
According to Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the accident unfolded on Sunday evening at 5:36 PM at the intersection of Walker Road and IL Route 72. As the sun set, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies swiftly responded to a distressing scene. A collision involving two vehicles, a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder and a 2008 Chevrolet sedan, had left two individuals trapped within the overturned sedan.
Preliminary investigations say a northbound 2015 Nissan Pathfinder initially halted at the intersection’s stop sign on Walker Road, adjacent to IL Route 72. Tragically, the driver proceeded into the intersection, colliding with the eastbound 2008 Chevrolet sedan. The impact unleashed a series of rolls, eventually bringing the sedan to a rest on a property northeast of the intersection.
A passenger in the sedan, identified as 50-year-old Wilbert Parker of Elgin, succumbed to the injuries sustained during the crash.
First responders toiled for nearly an hour to free the sedan’s driver. Once extricated, she was urgently airlifted to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford, where she remains in critical condition.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing at this time.
