Elmhurst, IL – A serious traffic accident on St. Charles Road in Elmhurst has resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man from Itasca and injuries to another driver.
According to police reports, the fatal incident occurred on Thursday evening involving four vehicles: an Infiniti sedan, an Acura sedan, a Toyota minivan, and a Lexus SUV. The Elmhurst Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene following 911 calls reporting the crash.
According to the Elmhurst Police Department, the accident was preceded by another collision in Oakbrook Terrace involving the Infiniti. The driver fled that scene, leading to a high-speed chase that culminated in a disastrous collision on St. Charles Road. The Infiniti attempted to overtake the Acura, resulting in a head-on collision with the Toyota and causing debris to strike the Lexus. The drivers of the Acura and Lexus were unharmed, while the Toyota’s driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigations into the crash, assisted by the DuPage MERIT Major Crash Reconstruction Team, are focusing on the possibility that intoxication played a role. The identity of the deceased Itasca man is being withheld pending notification of his family. The Elmhurst Police Department is actively investigating the incident and appeals to the public for any information related to the crash.
