Eureka, IL – The Woodford County Sheriff’s Office in Eureka, IL, is alerting the public to a series of phone scams where individuals are impersonating Woodford County deputies or command staff in attempts to illicitly obtain money.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, these scammers have been contacting residents, falsely claiming to be law enforcement officials and demanding payment through untraceable methods such as wire transfers, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or payment apps. Authorities emphasize that these demands are hallmark traits of scams, as legitimate agencies do not solicit payments or personal information over the phone.

The Woodford County Sheriff’s Office advises anyone who receives such calls to not share any personal information and to report the incident to them directly at 309-467-2375, reinforcing the message that the Sheriff’s Office never initiates calls for payment or solicitation.
