Elmhurst, IL – Three men have been charged in a series of vehicle thefts across various Illinois communities, following a detailed investigation by the Elmhurst Police Department. Kamil Spieczynski, Sebastian Nawrot, and Mateusz Wojtowicz are facing felony charges for their alleged involvement in the theft of several high-value motor vehicles.
According to the Elmhurst Police Department, the investigation began after a flatbed trailer was reported stolen from a business in Elmhurst on February 1, 2024. Surveillance footage and license plate reader cameras linked a previously stolen Ford pickup truck to the theft. Further investigation revealed a black Toyota Prius, registered to Kamil Spieczynski, near the theft scene. Spieczynski and Wojtowicz had previous arrests in December 2023 for possession of stolen motor vehicles and were on pretrial release at the time of the incident.
The breakthrough came on February 13 when detectives observed the trio stealing two Volvo semi-truck tractors in Bensenville, leading to a police pursuit that ended with the vehicles abandoned and Spieczynski’s subsequent arrest. Nawrot and Wojtowicz were captured on security footage but evaded immediate arrest.
On February 20, Elmhurst Police arrested Nawrot and Wojtowicz in Elmhurst. Searches in Woodstock, Illinois, led to the discovery of two more stolen vehicles, including a 2020 Ford Transit van and a 2017 Maserati Levante SUV.
The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged the men with multiple felony counts of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle Valued at $25,000 or More, among other charges. They were granted pretrial release under the provisions of the Illinois SAFE-T Act.
The Elmhurst Police Department acknowledged the cooperation of multiple law enforcement agencies in this multi-community investigation. The public is reminded that the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
