Explosive Materials Suspected in Kankakee Garage Fire

Kankakee, IL – A garage fire was reported at 4:43 PM on the east side of Kankakee, fully engulfing the garage located at 682 S Osborn. Kankakee firefighters were dispatched to the scene and have been working diligently to control the fire.

According to scanner reports, the possibility of explosive materials inside the garage has been mentioned, prompting first responders to ask the public to avoid the area if possible. At the time, no indication had been given to why the materials are suspected inside the structure.

Members of A-Shift have been on the scene working to contain the fire. At this time, no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and it is unclear if the explosive materials, if present, played a role in the incident. Kankakee firefighters are expected to remain on the scene until the fire is fully extinguished.
