Gunshots near Steuben Elementary School prompt lockdown

KANKAKEE, IL – Steuben Elementary School was put on lockdown on Friday morning due to reports of gunshots fired in the vicinity. The incident occurred around 9 am in the 500 block of South Wildwood in Kankakee.

According to witnesses, multiple shots were heard in the area. Kankakee City Police later reported several shots were fired in the 600 block of South Evergreen, near the school. However, no damage or injuries were reported. The police recovered multiple shell casings on the street the school shares.

The school went into lockdown as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff. The lockdown was lifted later, and normal activities resumed.
