Springfield, IL – Residents across Central Illinois should gear up for a substantial downpour as forecasts predict up to two inches of rain in some locales.

The National Weather Service reports a blend of warmer air with highs reaching into the 60s and 70s, setting the stage for a series of showers and thunderstorms starting today and continuing through Thursday. Conditions south of Interstate 70 are particularly primed for the heaviest rainfall, with accumulations potentially exceeding two inches.

These weather developments signal a wet midweek period, with the most intense showers expected between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. While flood risks appear low due to the gradual nature of the rainfall, areas in southeast Illinois need to remain vigilant. Beyond the rain, breezy conditions are also forecast towards the end of the week, possibly complicating cleanup and recovery efforts where heavy rain falls.
