COUNTRYSIDE, IL – As the holiday shopping season kicks off, local residents are being urged to stay alert amid a rise in crafty theft tactics.

According to Countryside Police reports, a recent incident at the Jewel-Osco at 5545 S. Brainard Avenue highlights the concerning trend. On September 29, a shopper was approached by a seemingly harmless man seeking help with a product. However, while she was assisting him, her credit card was discreetly lifted from her purse.

Countryside Police Department warns that such distraction methods, where one individual diverts attention and a second pilfers personal belongings, have become more prevalent. The victim, in this case, has chosen not to press charges should the culprits be identified.

As stores become busier, the public is reminded to keep a close watch on their belongings and remain wary of strangers, ensuring a safe and joyful shopping experience.
