KANKAKEE – The Kankakee County Health Department reported 86 residents were hospitalized for COVID-19 at area hospitals Monday. It’s the most ever hospitalized in Kankakee, up 150% in 72 hours. Since Friday afternoon, 29 additional area residents were hospitalized for the disease.
It comes after Friday afternoon, Health Administrator John Bevis issued a rare letter to the community asking for help among residents in mitigation of the virus.
Two additional COVID deaths were also announced since Friday, a count that now stands at 88 since the pandemic first began in March, with 754 new cases announced Monday.
The current active case count in Kankakee now stands at 3,316, just shy of 1 of ever 2 cases now active in Kankakee County since the pandemic began. Monday afternoon, 49.3% of all cases locally remained active in the community.
