SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting a new single high for reported COVID-19 cases with 4,015 reported Thursday.

It’s the single largest day of cases reported to date.

Previously IDPH had reported a single day high of 5,368 cases back on September 4th, but the reporting was made due to delays in data processing. The new totals come after a total of 67,086 tests had been reported in the past 24 hours.

The agency reported 53 new COVID-19 related deaths Thursday, bringing totals to 9,127 since the pandemic began.

Among the newly reported deaths include people from 30 different counties across Illinois, including 11 residents of Cook County and 4 from Will County.

IDPH has now reported 331,620 cases since the pandemic began stretching across all 102 counties in Illinois. The state’s preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate now sits at 4.9%.

As of Wednesday night, 1,932 people were in hospital for COVID-19, including 388 admitted to the ICU.
