Illinois has approved an additional $112 million in food assistance for all SNAP households with school-aged children.

“Households with school aged children who are eligible for free or reduced meals when school is in session, but do not currently receive SNAP benefits, will be able to submit a simplified application for this assistance soon,” Governor Pritzker announced during a press conference this afternoon.

Families already receiving SNAP will have additional assistance automatically added to LINK cards. Distribution of those additional funds began yesterday.

The change will affect over 300,000 households in Illinois.
