JOLIET, IL – The dark underbelly of Illinois has been exposed as Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow announced the conviction of Christian Shepherd, 44, of Ottawa. Once a school bus driver, Shepherd was found guilty today in another chilling murder-for-hire scheme.
While incarcerated in May 2010 for a sexual assault charge, Shepherd tried recruiting an inmate to eliminate the victim, her mother, and two detectives, providing a map and a menacing message. Fortunately, the inmate alerted authorities, even capturing Shepherd’s words via a wire. In a disturbing twist, Shepherd then sought another inmate to target the original victims and the first hitman. Again, his plans were foiled.
Earlier this year, Shepherd was handed a 76-year sentence for his first attempt at hiring a hitman. He now awaits his sentencing on October 5 for this latest conviction, facing up to 40 years in prison.
