An Illinois man has been sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for aggravated domestic battery and domestic battery. Cyquim James, 41, was convicted in January 2023, with the sentencing range for the class 2 felony being three to seven years. James is expected to serve 85% of his sentence.
The Kankakee City Police Department received commendation for their investigation of the case, while prosecutors Jonathan Watson and Jennifer Goudreau worked tirelessly to secure a conviction and a sentence toward the top of the sentencing range.
Domestic violence is a significant issue, and experts warn that manual strangulation is a significant sign that domestic violence could escalate to become deadly.
