CHICAGO, IL – Following a fatal shooting on Interstate 94, Illinois State Police (ISP) have arrested a 17-year-old from Lynwood, Illinois. The juvenile has been charged with first-degree murder by the ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 East Violent Crimes Unit.
According to Illinois state police reports the incident occurred on March 16, 2024, when troopers were called to a traffic crash on I-94 northbound at 170th Street in Lansing, IL.Upon arrival, authorities discovered the driver of a blue Infiniti SUV had suffered a gunshot wound during an expressway shooting that took place on Illinois 394 northbound at Thornton Lansing Road in Cook County, IL. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The extensive investigation led to the recovery of the weapon and the identification of the suspect vehicle and driver. The juvenile was taken into custody on April 11, 2024.
Charges were filed following a review by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. The suspect is now being held at the Riverdale Police Department pending court proceedings. As the legal process moves forward, the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
