Illinois Storm Closes Eldon Hazlet and Stephen Forbes State Parks

Kinmundy, IL – Portions of Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area near Carlyle and Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area near Kinmundy are closed following a severe storm Sunday evening.

According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, IDNR staff are working to clear downed trees, fallen limbs, and other debris. While no injuries were reported, some campers and vehicles sustained damage. Site staff advise avoiding the campground areas during cleanup. The equestrian campground at Forbes will remain closed until later this week. Full reopening will occur once conditions are safe.
