Urbana, IL – An 18-year-old student was found deceased at University of Illinois on Saturday morning on the back porch of a campus building in the 1200 block of West Nevada Street, Urbana.
According to University police reports the discovery, made by a university employee, has prompted a comprehensive investigation by the University of Illinois Police.
The case unfolded early Saturday when the student was reported missing by his roommate at 1:23 a.m., after being unreachable for about an hour. University Police conducted an extensive search, covering the student’s residence hall, the main Quad, surrounding streets, and local hospitals. However, the search efforts initially did not locate the student. Later at 11:08 a.m. the grim discovery of the student’s body was made.
Although initial indications suggest the death may have been accidental, the University Police are not ruling out other possibilities until the investigation is complete. The Champaign County Coroner’s Office is working alongside the police to manage the identification process and has notified the student’s family.
