Indiana Deputy Shot, Teen Found Dead Inside Home Following Welfare Check

Martinsville, IN – An Indiana deputy was shot and a teenager was found deceased in a Martinsville residence, stemming from a welfare check initiated by a concerning social media post. 

According to the Indiana State Police Bloomington Post, the incident unfolded early this morning on Beech Grove Road. Deputy Mallory Schwab, responding to a call about a 15-year-old juvenile, was shot from inside the house while inspecting the perimeter. Schwab received immediate medical attention and was rushed to Methodist Hospital.

The situation escalated, leading to the involvement of SWAT teams from Morgan and Johnson Counties. Despite using negotiation tools and non-lethal tactics, officers later discovered the juvenile dead inside the residence. 

No officers fired their weapons during the incident. The Indiana State Police are now leading the investigation.
