Indiana Investigators Probe Possible Arson Following Roof Collapse at Abandoned School

Benton Harbor, IN – Indiana investigators are delving into a possible case of arson after a fire led to a roof collapse at an abandoned school facility in Benton Harbor.

The incident at the Morton School on North Hull Avenue was reported on Sunday, March 24, at 2:53 p.m., according to the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety. Firefighters arriving at the scene were met with intense smoke and flames emanating from a classroom, spreading towards the roof.

The fire resulted in the collapse of the roof in the northwest part of the school, prompting officials to condemn this section of the building. It has been determined that the affected area will require demolition. As the investigation continues, authorities are treating the fire as a suspected arson, highlighting the intentional nature of the blaze.
