MITCHELL, IN – An Indiana woman, Brittany Medina, stands accused of a horrific crime that has sent shockwaves through the community.
According to reports it happened early last week when the 33-year-old mother was charged with the murders of her own two young children, a 1-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son. In a chilling confession, she reportedly admitted to drowning them, all in the belief that it would “send [them] to Heaven.”
Medina voluntarily turned herself in to the Lawrence County Jail on Tuesday, leaving law enforcement authorities stunned and deeply troubled by the grim details she shared.
Following her confession, Lawerence County Sheriff’s Deputies rushed to her residence on Brook Street, where they discovered a heartbreaking scene. Just after 4 p.m., they discovered the innocent children lying lifeless in a tub, as described, victims of their own mother’s unimaginable actions.
Disturbingly, Medina disclosed that she had ingested a dangerous mix of substances, including Xanax, suboxone, and cocaine, which clouded her judgment and reasoning. She claimed that “voices in her head” had convinced her that her children were in imminent danger of being kidnapped and tortured. Tragically, she believed that the only way to safeguard them was to “send [them] to heaven.”
In addition to facing murder charges, Medina now confronts felony neglect charges, deepening the tragedy that has left this small Indiana town reeling.
