Carly Dobin of DeMotte, Indiana, gave birth to her daughter, Molly, just after the stroke of midnight on February 29 at Franciscan Health Crown Point, the same unique date her late great-grandfather was born on. He, a fellow “leapling,” would have turned 96 years old.
Leap Day, the 29th of February, only occurs once every four years, adding a day to the calendar to keep it aligned with the Earth’s revolutions around the Sun. Those born on this day are part of an exclusive group, with the chances of being born on Leap Day at about one in 1,461. However, the probability of a newborn sharing this special day with a direct family member soars to an extraordinary one in 2 million, highlighting the unique bond between Molly and her great-grandfather.
