Indianapolis, IN – A carjacking suspect was shot and killed by Indianapolis police following an armed carjacking on Tuesday morning.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers were dispatched to a gas station on North Post Road just before 9 a.m. after receiving a report of an armed carjacking. The victim reported that a suspect approached her vehicle at gunpoint, demanding her car and belongings. Additional suspects remained in their gray sedan while the carjacking took place.
The suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle and their own car. IMPD officers quickly broadcasted descriptions of both vehicles. An officer, proactively searching the area, located the vehicles on Cavalier Court. The officer reportedly encountered a suspect and commanded him to surrender and drop his weapon before the officer fired his weapon.
The suspect continued to flee, prompting the officer to fire additional rounds. The suspect was struck at least once and later transported to a hospital by Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services, where he succumbed to his injuries. No officers or bystanders were injured in the incident.
Two firearms with extended magazines, including one with a machine conversion device, were recovered at the scene. The involved officer was wearing a body camera, which was activated during the encounter.
