WHITESVILLE, Ky. – A plane crash in the woods near New Panther Creek Church in Ohio County claimed the lives of two, an instructor and a student, amid severe weather conditions.

According to Ohio County KY Sheriffs Office reports, on Wednesday evening, Evansville Airport controllers lost contact with a Piper PA-28 aircraft en route from Bowling Green to Owensboro.

A coordinated search effort, fueled by flight path data and cell phone signals, pinpointed the plane’s last location. The aircraft’s wreckage was discovered in a densely forested area behind the church.

The sudden thunderstorm that developed in the vicinity is suspected to be a contributing factor to the tragic accident.
