Des Moines, IA – Iowa officials have issued a disaster proclamation impacting five counties following severe weather earlier this month, unlocking state resources and financial assistance for affected residents.

According to Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Governor Kim Reynolds signed the proclamation on Monday, April 20, 2026, for Carroll, Crawford, Grundy, Harrison, and Washington counties. The action follows severe weather that began April 13 and continues to impact parts of the state.

The proclamation allows state resources to be used for response and recovery efforts and activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program along with the Disaster Case Advocacy Program.

Officials say eligible households may receive up to $7,000 in grants to help cover storm-related expenses, including home or vehicle repairs, replacement of personal property, food, and temporary housing. Income eligibility is capped at 200% of the federal poverty level, and applicants must provide receipts for reimbursement.

The Disaster Case Advocacy Program is also available to connect residents with recovery planning, services, and support. Unlike the grant program, there are no income requirements for advocacy assistance, though the program will close 180 days after the proclamation date.

The disaster proclamation is effective immediately and will remain in place for 30 days unless extended or terminated.

Residents in impacted counties are encouraged to begin the application process and review eligibility requirements through the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management website.
