Rockford, IL – The Rockford Fire Department has announced a community 3K run this summer aimed at supporting fire prevention education and burn survivor programs.

According to a media advisory from the department, the 9/11-themed 3K Family Fun Run will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, beginning at 9:11 a.m. The start time was selected to recognize the symbolic importance of emergency services.

The event will be held at Fire Station 5 and Trailhead Park in Rockford, drawing participants from across Winnebago County and the greater northern Illinois region.

Officials say proceeds from the $30 registration fee will help fund training tools and educational materials used in fire prevention outreach. The Rockford Fire Department reports it connects with tens of thousands of residents each year through its safety programs.

A portion of the funds will also support “Camp I Am Me,” a summer camp hosted by the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance. The program provides a supportive environment for young burn survivors, focusing on confidence building and community.

Participants who register will receive an event T-shirt, along with access to water, food, and awards. Organizers encourage families, runners, and community members of all ages to take part.

Registration is currently open online, and officials expect strong turnout as the event approaches.
