Iroquois County Tragedy: Fatal Collision Claims Life, Injures Three on Route 52

Iroquois County, Illinois — A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday morning in Iroquois County, claiming the life of 73-year-old Simon Ramirez and injuring his two sons. 

According to Iroquois County Coroner Bill Cheatum, the SUV carrying Ramirez and his sons was traveling north on 1500 E Road when it failed to stop at an intersection, colliding with a westbound semi on Route 52. Ramirez was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. His sons received treatment for their injuries at Riverside Hospital in Kankakee, as did the truck driver. 

Emergency services from Ashkum Fire, Riverside Ambulance, and Illinois State Police responded to the incident around 10 am. A state police reconstruction team is investigating the crash.
