Joliet, IL – Pedestrian Critically Injured in Traffic Accident

Joliet, IL – A 22-year-old Joliet man was struck by a sedan while running across W. Jefferson Street on Friday evening.

According to the Joliet Police Department, the incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. in the 1700 block of W. Jefferson St. Witnesses and bystanders provided first aid until the Joliet Fire Department arrived and transported the victim to Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital with head injuries.

The driver of the sedan remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Witnesses reported that the victim ran across Jefferson Street through traffic and was struck by the westbound vehicle in the center turn lane.

W. Jefferson Street was closed for several hours as the traffic reconstruction team processed the scene. No citations have been issued, and the Joliet Police Traffic Unit is conducting an investigation. The victim is currently in critical but stable condition at Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital.
