Kankakee, IL – In a heartwarming display of support for veterans, the Marine Corps League Detachment 1253 has made a significant contribution to the Kankakee Community College Veteran’s Resource Center by donating a Space Force Flag. This meaningful gesture took place at KCC on Monday, Jan. 29, symbolizing the growing inclusivity and recognition of all branches of the United States military within the veteran community.
According to Kankakee Community College, the ceremony was attended by key members of both the college and the Marine Corps League. The attendees included Kendra Souligne, KCC director of financial aid & student engagement; Lois Allen, member of Marine Corps League Detachment 1253; David Allen, past commandant of the detachment; Joe Mayfield, the current commandant; Jieun Loney, president of the KCC Veteran’s Association and a Navy veteran; Sadie Piehl, vice president of the association and an Army veteran; Brandon Evans, an Army veteran and association member; and Megan Ponton, KCC assistant director of financial aid & veteran services.
This contribution not only enriches the Veteran’s Resource Center’s collection but also stands as a symbol of the evolving face of the U.S. Armed Forces, acknowledging the importance and contribution of the Space Force alongside traditional military branches.
