Manteno, IL – A wave of recreational upgrades is set to hit a Kankakee County park, with Manteno’s Lucille Thies Park at the forefront of these enhancements.
These improvements will introduce new pickleball courts, bocce ball areas, and sand volleyball courts, among other amenities. The Village of Manteno is investing in the park’s expansion with the aim of creating a versatile outdoor space that caters to a variety of sports and leisure activities, making it a year-round destination for families and athletes alike.
According to Village Administrator Chris LaRocque, the development will begin soon, with ambitions to wrap up before the colder months. This initiative is part of a larger effort to enhance Manteno’s park facilities, fostering a stronger sense of community and encouraging active lifestyles. The park, named after Lucille Thies — a dedicated advocate for the local community and initiator of the ecumenical movement — will honor her legacy by providing a setting that promotes wellness and community interaction.
Other improvements coming to the park include six additional Pickleball courts, an artificial turf wiffleball field, a shuffle ball court, Bocce ball courts, permanent beanbag boards, volleyball courts, a permanent restroom and pavilion facility, parking lot and EV’s charging station and extensions to the park current sidewalks.
