Kankakee, IL – Man Arrested for Assaulting Officer, Biting Employee in Retail Theft Incident

Kankakee, IL – A retail theft in Kankakee escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in the arrest of 23-year-old John D. Sidney-Fitzpatrick. 

The Kankakee City Police reported the incident, which took place on Monday evening at the Meadowview Shopping Center. Sidney-Fitzpatrick allegedly stole a bottle of alcohol from a convenience store, hiding it in his sleeve. When an employee tried to intervene, he reportedly bit them. His attempt to evade arrest led to a physical altercation with a responding officer. 

Despite initial charges of aggravated battery against a police officer, these were subsequently dropped by the Kankakee County State’s Attorney. Sidney-Fitzpatrick now faces charges related to retail theft and resisting arrest.
