Kankakee, IL – An early morning house fire Tuesday in Kankakee resulted in the death of a man who became trapped on the second floor.

Responding to a call around 1 a.m., Kankakee firefighters rushed to a residence in the 600 block of South Greenwood Avenue. The crews arrived to find a severe fire on the first floor, which had swiftly extended to the second floor and attic of the two-and-a-half story house.

Despite the rapid response and the joint effort from firefighters of surrounding communities, which brought the blaze under control within approximately two hours, the man was found on the second floor and later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances leading to this unfortunate incident.
