Marion, IN – A Marion man, Stuart W. Roane III, has been charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors following a horrific crash in September that resulted in serious injuries and a baby being ejected from the vehicle.

According to authorities, Roane faces charges of operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury with a Schedule I or II substance, a Level 5 felony; operating while intoxicated – endangering, a Class A misdemeanor; and reckless driving causing bodily injury, also a Class A misdemeanor. The incident occurred on September 23, 2023, around 8:35 PM, when Schererville Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the intersection of Burr St and US 30. Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle split in half and another with severe front-end damage. A mother and her baby, who were in the split vehicle, received immediate medical attention after the baby was ejected during the crash. Both were later transported to a hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the other vehicle, now identified as Roane, was taken into custody, with alcohol and speed considered contributing factors to the accident. The South Lake County Crash Reconstruction Team is leading the investigation into this serious incident, as stated by the Schererville Police Department.
