Wilmington, IL – The National Weather Service Chicago reports a decrease in the Kankakee River levels to 11.15 feet as of 10:45 AM CST, yet flood warnings remain for Wilmington and surrounding areas.

Despite the decline, the flood warning issued due to an ice jam continues to impact regions from Kankakee to Sun River Terrace, including Kankakee County, until 11:45 AM CST Monday. The Civil Air Patrol’s aerial images have documented the historic ice coverage, but with the implementation of warm water siphons, channels of water are beginning to emerge.

The Will County Emergency Management Team emphasizes the need for ongoing caution, as the melting ice poses risks of sudden water level rises. Residents are advised to stay informed on the latest weather service alerts and to prepare for any necessary precautions.
