Plainfield, IL – Woodman’s Food Market, an employee-owned grocery chain established in 1918, is proposing to open a new 240,000 square foot store at the northeast corner of 119th Street and IL Route 59 in Plainfield. The project includes a food store, a fuel center with gas dispensers, a convenience store, car wash, and oil change center, and spans a 36-acre site featuring seven outlots for additional development.
The Village of Plainfield would see over 200 new jobs and 200+ temporary construction jobs expected with the addition of the new business. Mayor Argoudelis has welcomed Woodman’s choice, highlighting the positive impact on the community through more grocery options, job creation, and tax revenue.
Previously, efforts to redevelop the vacant Wal-Mart site at 127th Street and IL Route 59 with Woodman’s were not successful. The proposed new location promises to offer a superior solution for Plainfield residents. Clint Woodman, President of Woodman’s Food Market, emphasized the strategic decision behind the location, aiming to provide long-term benefits to the Village.
The proposal will go through the Village’s approval process, with reviews by the Plan Commission and Village Board in the upcoming months. If approved, the project’s construction and associated improvements could start between 2024 and 2025.
