Kankakee, IL – In response to the flood warning along the Kankakee River, the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office has announced the availability of sandbags for local residents.

According to a recent statement released on Friday afternoon, the sandbags can be picked up on the south side of the Jerome Combs Detention Center located at 3000 South Justice Way, Kankakee, IL. The Sheriff’s Office has emphasized that the sandbags are offered on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis, and individuals are responsible for loading their own sandbags.

This measure is part of the ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of potential flooding due to the recent ice jam along the river. Residents in flood-prone areas are encouraged to take necessary precautions and stay updated on the latest advisories from local authorities.
