Kankakee, IL – The Kankakee Area YMCA is set for a comprehensive makeover, with two significant projects slated to commence in 2024. The first is an extensive renovation of their 80,000-square-foot parking lot beginning March 25, aimed at repairing and sealing the long-neglected asphalt. The second project involves a substantial upgrade to the Family Locker Room, with renovations starting April 1, expected to last four weeks.

These facility upgrades are part of the YMCA’s reinvestment in its infrastructure, prioritizing a better experience for members and their families. The parking lot project, long overdue, will see the vast space undergo repairs and resurfacing, enhancing safety and aesthetics. The YMCA is committed to minimizing inconvenience during this period, promising to maintain main entrance access and clear signage to direct traffic flow.

Simultaneously, the Family Locker Room will be temporarily closed to make way for an improved flooring renovation. Alternative arrangements include the conversion of the Women’s General Locker Room into a family space, ensuring privacy and continuity of services for all members.

As both projects progress, the YMCA pledges to keep its members updated through regular communications. These efforts reflect the organization’s dedication to maintaining its facilities to the highest standards, ensuring a comfortable and welcoming environment for all who visit. The Kankakee Area YMCA extends gratitude to its members for their support and patience as they work towards enhancing the community’s wellness hub.
