Kayaker Discovers Unidentified Woman’s Body in River, Indiana DNR Launches Investigation

Columbus, IN – A collaborative investigation has been initiated by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department after a kayaker came across an unidentified woman’s body in the East Fork of the River in Columbus. The discovery was made near the Water Road public access ramp on Wednesday afternoon, approximately at 1:30 p.m.

The cause of death is currently under examination, with the Bartholomew County Coroner awaiting autopsy results. While initial inspections haven’t suggested foul play, the identity of the deceased is still being determined. Officials are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the Indiana DNR Dispatch Center at 812-837-9536, in hopes of aiding the ongoing investigation.
