Lake County, IL – A pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle on Route 22 in North Barrington, Illinois, sparking a thorough investigation by local authorities. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred around 6:55 p.m. on Tuesday, near the intersection with Rainbow Road. Responding deputies found a 65-year-old man from North Barrington dead in a ditch line, a victim of the collision.

Initial findings suggest the pedestrian, wearing dark clothing and walking on the south shoulder of the unlit Route 22, was struck by an eastbound 2013 Ford Explorer. The driver, a 47-year-old Geneva man, was not injured and dialed 911 immediately after the crash, aiding the investigation with his cooperation.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office has been tasked with conducting an autopsy to further understand the circumstances leading to the pedestrian’s death.
