Lake County, IN – A 22-year-old man, Christian R. Maldonado, has been arrested and charged in connection with a homicide in Lake County.
According to Michigan City Police, the incident, which led to the discovery of an unresponsive Hispanic male with a gunshot wound, occurred on March 24, 2024, around 3:30 p.m. at 1021 W. 145th Street, East Chicago.
The Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, along with the Sheriff’s Department CSI, responded promptly to the scene. A witness’s account led to the identification and subsequent location of Maldonado, who reportedly fled from officers but ultimately surrendered before a search warrant could be served on his hiding place.
Following a detailed investigation, the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force filed charges against Maldonado on March 25, 2024. He faces charges of Murder (Level 1 Felony), Dealing Cocaine (Level 2 Felony), and Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun (Level 5 Felony and a misdemeanor). Maldonado is currently detained at the Lake County Sheriff Department Jail.
