Lake County, IN – Meth Discovery, OWI for Man Found Asleep in Wendy’s Drive-Thru

Schererville, IN – A routine check on a vehicle blocking traffic at a Wendy’s Hamburgers in Schererville, Indiana, led to unexpected charges for a Chicago man. Leonard Terrell Westbrook, 38, was found asleep in his car on February 23rd, 2024, which prompted a response from the Schererville Police Department.

According to Schererville Police Department reports, officers detected signs of impairment in Westbrook, initiating an OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) investigation. This routine procedure took a turn when Westbrook’s behavior raised further suspicion, leading to a comprehensive search. Hidden near his groin, officers allegedly discovered approximately 21 grams of methamphetamine. 

The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office has since charged Westbrook with dealing methamphetamine, a level 2 felony, among other offenses. He is currently held without bond, pending further legal proceedings.
