East Chicago, IN – A death investigation is underway in Lake County after a 21-year-old East Chicago woman died following a heated argument with her boyfriend about his plans to attend games with friends.
According to the East Chicago Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 12:56 a.m. on Saturday to the area of Dickey Road and Park Street in response to an agency assist call. Upon arrival, they found the woman unresponsive and bleeding from her head near the curb. Numerous witnesses were on the scene.
The woman’s 25-year-old boyfriend, also from East Chicago, told officers that they were heading home from Chicago when an argument erupted. During the dispute, the woman allegedly opened the front passenger door and stepped out of the moving vehicle. The boyfriend immediately stopped the car and found her unconscious in the street. Several witnesses stopped to assist and called 911.
Officers took over CPR compressions until medics arrived. Despite these efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries at St. Catherine Hospital. Authorities are withholding the identities of those involved until next of kin are notified.
The incident is currently being investigated as a death investigation. No further details are available at this time.
