BOLINGBROOK, Ill. – A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help the family of the victims of a triple murder in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Tania Stewart, the mother of two girls who were killed in the attack, created the fundraiser to help her and her two surviving sons relocate and start over. Stewart was also injured in the attack and is currently in the hospital.
The campaign has raised almost $10,000 of its $20,000 goal as of Sunday evening, with only 156 donors over the span of two days. The family is also preparing for the funeral, which will be held on March 18th at Grace Funeral home in Rockford, Illinois.
The tragedy occurred on March 5th, 2023, when 17-year-old Byrion Montgomery allegedly entered the family’s home and shot his girlfriend, a 40-year-old man, Stewart’s fiancée, and a 9-year-old girl, her daughter.
“My family was brutally murdered when my daughter’s boyfriend entered our home and slaughtered my fiancé and two beautiful daughters to death,” Stewart said in her GoFundMe. “I AM A SURVIVOR I don’t know how and I don’t know why? I feel like I should have died with them But I have two beautiful boys that need me. I have to be strong but if you can find it In your hearts to help me and my family move forward I would greatly appreciate it.”
The boys were also inside the home but were not injured in the attack, police said last week.
Montgomery was taken into custody shortly afterward and has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, which include first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, home invasion, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
The community has come together to support the family in the aftermath of the devastating event. Those who wish to donate to the GoFundMe campaign can find it on the platform’s website.
