Loaded Handgun Found on Kankakee Teen after Street Fight

KANKAKEE, Ill. – A loaded handgun was discovered and a juvenile arrested on weapons charges after a street fight in Kankakee over the weekend. 

According to city police, officers responded to a call just before 1 am on Saturday, reporting a physical altercation between two individuals in a street near Nelson and East River.

As officers arrived on the scene, one of the individuals fled on foot while the other was approached by an officer. The fleeing person was later located in the 500 block of Nelson and was identified as a 16-year-old. A search of the teenager allegedly resulted in the finding of a loaded handgun.

The juvenile was taken into custody and is now facing weapon charges. Due to being a minor, the identity of the individual and further details are being withheld by authorities.
