Momence Heritage Day 2023: A Celebration of History and Heritage

MOMENCE, Ill. – Momence Heritage Day 2023 is set to take place on June 10, from 11:30 AM to 4 PM. This year’s event promises to be a fun-filled day with historical exhibits, performers, and vendors.

The day-long celebration will include various activities, such as a Downtown Businesses showcase, Food Vendors, Dancing Horse Performances & Rides, Local History Museums and Exhibits, and more. All activities are free of charge.

The opening ceremony will take place at Lion’s Park, on the corner of 4th Street & Dixie Highway, at 11:30 AM. The ceremony will feature a flag raising and a presentation by the Momence Honor Guard, followed by the dedication of the Soldiers’ Monument sign. The special guests at the ceremony will include the family of Iris Hicks, one of the little girls who unveiled the soldiers’ monument in 1909, and local dignitaries. The Soldiers’ Monument Sign will be sponsored by Van Drunen Farms.

Blackjack & The Dancing Horses will perform from 1 PM to 3 PM on E. Washington Street. Attendees will have the opportunity to take photos with the horses and take rides in between performances.

Other activities include a World War I exhibit at the Graham Historic House, guided tours of the Earl Schoeffner Farm Museum, Momence Memorabilia display, tours of the Little Red Schoolhouse, and guided tours of the Railroad Museum featuring a Military exhibition room. Local artisans, including Ethan Stone, a blacksmith, and Eric Boos, a woodworker, will also showcase their crafts.

The Conrad Park and Pioneer Cabin will be open for visitors to enjoy. Momence Heritage Day is a perfect opportunity for families, friends, and visitors to come together, learn, and celebrate the history and heritage of Momence.
