FRANKFORT, IL – Nearly 600 Illinois residents competed in the 127th Boston Marathon held on Monday, April 17, 2023. The marathon hosted over 30,000 athletes from across the world in one of the oldest and most esteemed races on the globe.
Evans Chebet defended his title, finishing the marathon in 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 54 seconds.
Some of the local participants included Mary Liesse, 29, of Frankfort; David Thompson, 23, of Bradley; Brandon Jones, 34, of Lockport; Lindsay Schultz, 42, of Frankfort; Jim Burns, 46, of Frankfort; Margaret Marron, 57, of Mokena; Marissa Latko, 28, of Mokena, and Michael Mendoza, 43, of Mokena.
The Boston Marathon’s course covers 26.2 miles through eight Massachusetts cities and towns, starting in Hopkinton and finishing in Boston’s Back Bay. It attracts elite runners and amateur athletes from across the globe.
Illinois residents have a long tradition of competing in the Boston Marathon, and this year’s participants continued that legacy with impressive performances. The Chicago Marathon is also one of the biggest marathons in the world, drawing runners from all over the globe.
