Illinois State Trooper involved in Four Car Crash Amidst Bridge Inspection on I-55

CHANNAHON — An Illinois State Trooper was involved in a four car crash Wednesday morning while bridge inspections were underway. 

According to reports it happened in the southbound lanes of I-55, near the location of the ongoing Des Plaines River bridge assessment just after 7:30 a.m. when a semi-tractor trailer, an SUV, a pick-up truck, collided with a state trooper’s patrol car. 

Traffic was backed up to Route 6 after the wreck.  Multiple injuries have been reported, it’s unknown at this time if the trooper was injured in the wreck.

The ongoing bridge inspection is being conducted by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). First responders from the Channahon Fire Protection District swiftly arrived at the scene, working diligently to provide medical assistance and clear the wreckage.

An investigation into the crash is now underway.
