KANKAKEE, Ill. – In a startling revelation came during a Wednesday morning assembly of the Kankakee County Justice Committee, County Coroner Bob Gessner shed light on a deeply concerning trend plaguing the community. With a somber tone, Gessner shared that the county has seen an unprecedented spike in suicides, urging immediate attention.
“We’ve had 15 suicides at this point right now, which is unbelievable in this county at 107,000. Last year all together we had 22,” Gessner disclosed, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
Disturbingly, this surge in suicides isn’t the only cause for concern. Gessner also highlighted a distressing increase in overdoses, pointing out that five overdoses have been reported within the last 72 hours alone.
